Lilias features four Italian varietals: Grechetto, Fiano, Montepulciano, and Aglianico. These alternative varietals are all grown on the farm and were carefully selected to suit the climate and conditions of the region and reflect the Mediterranean heritage of the Piccolo family.
Lilias is named after Lilias Maegraith, wife of Hugh Maegraith, the soldier settler who took up Farm 1814 Mallinson Road in 1921.
Hugh Maegraith took up Farm 1814, what is now known as Piccolo Family Farm, after serving in World War One. Hugh married Lilias Tresillian, a school teacher from Dubbo, and the pair lived on the farm with their two daughters Ruth and Elizabeth.
The script ‘Lilias’ on our wine’s label is derived from Lilias’ own handwriting.
